shared accommodation in hostels.

Due to *various reasons*, IISc is falling short of 170-200 rooms for the freshers who have started arriving. An idea was proposed by the Dean, Admission Committee and the Students’ Council to ask existing students to volunteer to share their single-bed rooms with the freshers and, in turn, not pay the hostel fees for the semester. Here are the relevant broadcast and the form for volunteering. The terms/rules for sharing the room are noteworthy.

Here are some sketches on the scenario.

I just hope they don’t start putting up tents in the gymkhana grounds!

yaa iam a fresher from 2010 100th batch!!!! gt in E block… i was shocked to see the room…. and above all i have to share it wid another…no proper water and not even net connectivity and laptop charging facility…..
    😦 hope this situation improves…..

  3. Fresher Says:

    I am in F,
I don’t mind the fact that it is a double room.
I don’t mind the fact that there is no Internet in my room as well.
I don’t mind the fact that the room is older than iisc itself.
I can live with all that!

But i am unhappy that there is no current supply in the room!
my phone battery is low, and I have to run around to charge it.

I understand the students will crib about something , even if everything is alright and manageable.

I am a reasonable guy, But no current! Is it wrong to ask for the very bare and basic necessities that an engineering student needs?

the fact that everyone runing campus is pretending that iisc has achieved something great in 100 years at the expense of the comforts of students (who do play a small role in its so called glory), is quite disturbing.

Great one :), really could relate to it from what I am experiencing now.
I am not sure whether it is a coincidence or not, but we here at IIT Bombay are also facing a similar situation. What the Dean had to tell was that the intake surpassed their expectations and the situation wont improve till 2012. 🙂 [So much for all the committees and admission procedures]. And add to it the renovation works going on in some of the existing hostels. I have even heard that fresh entrants are given spaces in the TV rooms in my hostel.
And to add to all this commotion there is a panther and her two cubs in the campus but thankfully they are not complaining about any accommodation problem yet. Would be really worried if they complain about the food 😉

*clap* *clap* great cartoons!! 🙂 Loved “Indian inst of space crunch” 😀

  6. Pratap Says:

    Cartoons are too good! 😀
    But some clarifications…
The request from the deans was for voluntary help from the students in the space crunch for students. Ultimately it is beneficial for some students who anyways share a room in new hostel as one of them would have a room in P/PD block and he wouldn’t want to climb the Everest every day because he gets an easy option. Some students would be leaving the institute in a month or so. If they come into this scheme they can help the fresher and at the same time save the 4K money. Some who don’t have good financial support (E.g. Students relying on pension) would like to trade off the privacy to the financial gain. So practically speaking in the scheme the students are only in win-win situation! 🙂
    For Freshers:
Please inform the students Council in writing so that they can help you guys in the best possible way.
